IS STILL A LOT OF INDONESIAN GOLD STORE UNDER YOUR PILLOW??
Spokesperson for the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Haryo Limanseto, revealed the opportunity for around 20 percent of people's gold which is still kept privately or "under the pillow" to enter gold bank instruments. Haryo explained that around 1,800 tons of gold in the community could be a potential that could be developed through the existence of a national bullion ecosystem. However, Haryo emphasized that around 20 percent is only a potential illustration and is not an obligation for people to transfer or make deposits of the gold they own. "If part of the community's gold potential, for example around 20 percent, can be included in financial instruments through the bullion ecosystem, it will have a positive impact on the development of the bullion market and the national economy," said Haryo in a written statement, Jakarta, Saturday (23/8/2026).
People's ownership and decisions to store, trade and utilize gold remain the full rights of the community. "The government plays a role in building the ecosystem and providing a choice of instruments that can provide added value to community assets," he said.
Haryo said that the development of the bullion ecosystem is part of the government's efforts to increase the added value of downstream mining and energy sectors. Apart from that, the government wants to build a bullion market that is increasingly efficient, liquid, transparent and integrated. The government also continues to strengthen the bullion ecosystem from upstream to downstream through collaboration between business actors, financial institutions and related industries.
One of the steps taken by the Government is the formation of the Indonesia Bullion Market Association (IBMA) to strengthen integration and collaboration in the national bullion ecosystem. He also said that the government currently sees the development of the bullion ecosystem as part of efforts to optimize the potential of domestic assets, deepen financial markets, and create new sources of economic growth for Indonesia. "The development of the bullion ecosystem is part of efforts to optimize the potential of domestic assets, deepen financial markets, and create new sources of economic growth, while still providing a safe space and choices for the public in managing their gold assets," he stressed. – Source by Detik.com
